The U.S. Federal Trade Commission approved Google Inc.’s acquisition of mobile-advertising company AdMob last Friday, potentially extending Google’s dominance in online advertising to mobile phones.

The FTC, in a statement, said that the deal “is unlikely to harm competition in the emerging market for mobile-advertising networks.”

The FTC noted that Apple has been developing its own mobile-advertising platform following its recent purchase of Quattro Wireless.

Google is currently the world’s No. 1 search engine and last year entered into the mobile phone market with its Android operating system.
