Google Inc. has acquired social media developer Meebo Inc. for an undisclosed sum, adding more developers to the Internet search giant’s Google+ social media service, the IM company announced Monday in a blogpost.

“For more than seven years we’ve been helping publishers find deeper relationships with their users and to make their sites more social and engaging,” Meebo said. “Together with Google, we’re super jazzed to roll up our sleeves and get cracking on even bigger and better ways to help users and website owners alike.”

Founded in 2005, Meebo started out as a browser-based instant messaging service, but soon expanded into a social toolbar product for publishers.

Meebo raised about $70 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, DFJ, and True Ventures.

All Things D first reported rumors about the acquisition last month, with an estimated price of about $100 million.
