After Motorola Inc. and Meebo, Google Inc. has moved to its newest target—Quickoffice, Inc. The Internet search giant announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the maker of the mobile productivity suite in an effort to strengthen its applications.
“Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device,” Alan Warren, Google’s engineering director, said in a blog post.
“Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we'll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite.”
Google already offers a mobile application with its online file viewer and editor, Google Docs, but it said it wants to work on “an even more seamless, intuitive, and integrated experience.”
QuickOffice is an outfit for Android, iPad, iPhone, and Symbian that builds mobile applications for viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets, and Powerpoint presentations.
“Now, we are ushering in a new chapter with Google,” Alan Masarek, co-founder and CEO of Quickoffice, said in a statement. “By combining the magic of Google’s intuitive solutions with Quickoffice’s powerful products, our shared vision for anytime, anywhere productivity can only grow.”
Google’s spokeswoman Katelin Todhunter-Gerberg told The Epoch Times that the company is holding off on other details of the acquisition, including the price and the terms of the deal.
