Gold'n Plump Recalls Over 55,000 Pounds of Chicken Due to Sand, Black Soil in Products

Gold'n Plump, a Minnesota-based company, is recalling approximately 55,608 pounds of chicken, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The recall was announced after Gold'n Plump discovered sand and black soil in its products.

The 18 affected products were produced between June 6–9, 2016.

The products all bear “P-322” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

So far, there have been no known cases of adverse reactions related to consumption of the products. Consumers are urged not to consume the products and to return them to the store of purchase or to throw them out. Healthcare providers should be contacted in cases of concern over illness.

The cause of the contamination is unknown and is under investigation.

The recall has been classified as a Class I recall, which the USDA defines as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

• 40-lb. cases containing “Gold'n Plump CHICKEN LEG QUARTERS 20500” with a use-by date of 6/20/2016, 6/21/2016,and 6/22/2016.
• 40-lb. cases containing “Gold'n Plump CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS 30800” with a use-by date of 6/20/2016.
• 40-lb. cases containing “Gold'n Plump BONELESS SKINLESS CHICKEN BREAST PIECES 36400” with a use-by date of 6/22/16.
