NEW YORK—Belt-tightening can be as simple as getting an energy efficient shower head. For some people, being green is the norm, for others it is a foreign concept. The upcoming Go Green Expo plans on busting through the myths and notions that will help propel green into the mainstream. President and CEO of the Go Green Expo, Bradford Rand, said the fastest growing green areas are home cleaning supplies and building. “Water filtration systems are huge too.”

Rand said he got inspired after watching the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” by Al Gore two years ago and wanted to do a green trade show in New York. “I basically got inspired by the movie,” he said. He has been involved in trade shows for 15 years and has organised 700 of them.

He said the show is for everyone, with a business-to-business day on Friday, and open to the general public over the weekend. Approximately 200 stalls will show items from “electronics and appliances to wind power, furniture, natural bedding, organic food, cleaning products,” Rand said.

For the average homeowner or renter, simply using non-toxic cleaning products can make a huge difference to indoor air quality. “If you’re buying poison and putting under your sink, when it gets hot it will get into the air,” Rand said.

Many homes are more toxic than the outside air, he said. Cleaning product companies will be present at the expo, along with an eco-friendly room showcasing greener building alternatives. Also present will be a green company that makes 100 percent biodegradable, nontoxic, food contact compliant plastic bag products—a practical and viable solution to eliminating plastic waste from the world.

Commercial and residential duct cleaning provides better indoor air quality and more efficient HVAC units. Maintaining clean vents had the added benefit of helping reduce air related health concerns such as allergies and asthma, it removes unwanted indoor air pollutants such as mold, fungus and bacteria, and it can lower utility bills.

For builders and building owners green building products and services will be readily accessible.
Sustainable electronics and the latest fuel cell and hybrid car from GM will be on display. For the kids, the Sundance Channel, is starting a new green programming.

The event will showcase a variety of special interest consumer and business areas including: Home Building and Energy Conservation; Health, Beauty and Fashion; Travel and Transportation; Business and Electronics and a Kids Zone, giving New Yorkers a chance to see, learn and interact with the latest in energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly products and services, as well as participate in interactive seminars with leaders in the green industry, local politicians and community organizations.

Stars Mariel Hemingway and Nigel Barker will join environmental leader Josh Dorfman and bestselling authors Julie Edelman and Seth Leitman as just some of the headlining names participating in this year’s event.

“We are so pleased to bring Go Green Expo back to New York for the second year in a row,” Rand said.

“Last year’s event was such a success with over 10,000 attendees, and we have even more to look forward to this year.”

The Go Green Expo will take place on April 17-19 at the New York Hilton in Midtown Manhattan. Please visit their website, www.gogreenexpo.com, for more information.
