Not only do you learn something new every day, most people do something new every day. That’s what Epoch Times reporters from Marback to Macau found when they asked people, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

It was a month and a week ago. I smoked a water pipe. I felt this was really relaxing.

The first time I’ve ever snorkeled in my life. It’s not pretty exciting, but I loved it. It was beautiful. I went to the Whitsundays. I went out to Heron Island. They had big Maori Rass and it was just beautiful. It was like swimming in a big aquarium. It was really nice. I’ll definitely be doing it again, definitely. It’s beautiful, the Great Barrier Reef. We’re quite lucky.

This week I tried something new. I cooked dinner for the first time. I have really never cooked before. Usually I eat out. If I do not eat out, I just order something to eat. I started to cook because of my son. My son doesn’t like to eat warm meals. He is four years old now and I believe he has to learn to eat warm meals. When we barbecue and we give him some food, he just starts to cry or he wants to vomit. This week I have cooked meat, beet, lettuce…. It will be a difficult time before he gets used to it, but I will keep on cooking.

Moreover, I am going to try some other new thing. I want to cut off my hair. I have always had long hair. Now I want to cut it very short like Victoria Beckham’s hairstyle.

This weekend we painted the children’s cabin up in a tree. I had not done that before.

For a first time? Recently, for a first time in my life my 12 year old daughter told me about her new boyfriend! It was a great experience. Of course like every mother should be, I am proud of her and happy for her. Another thing that is new for me is that my son is growing up and learning to speak, because before him I only had daughters. Boys sense the world in a different way than girls and for me this is also a very new experience.

Recently, I went to see the museum in the Statue of Liberty in New York. It was amazing, I mean, that those people could build this beautiful and great statue 100 years ago.

Yesterday, we were working together in the library and the fire alarm started. It was the first time for us in our lives. We immediately took the normal security measures. All was OK, nothing happened. For us it was the first time we had to remember what we need to do in this circumstance.

Look for the Global Q&A column every week, when Epoch Times correspondents interview people around the world to learn about their lives and perspectives on local and global realities. Next week’s global question: “How much emphasis do you think people in your country place on money compared to other parts of their lives?”
