This April 26, 2013 file photo shows radio personality Glenn Beck at the Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards in New York. Beck says he regrets that some of the inflammatory things he's said haves caused division in the country. He said Thursday, June 6, he didn't regret his opinions, just the way some of them were stated. He didn't specify which ones. He said he wasn't fully aware of the perilous times the country is in and the way people were at each other's throats. Beck accepted a First Amendment Award on Thursday from Talkers magazine, the trade publication for people in his line of work. (Photo by Andy Kropa/Invision/AP, file)

Glenn Beck, the conservative broadcaster, said on-air that he would fire any employee who buys fluorescent light bulbs, saying that “global warming is a pile of crap.”

“I am dead serious,” he said on a show, as he laughed. “I fire the person that starts to purchase fluorescent light bulbs unless that is the only light bulb for a specific reasons and I want to be CC’ed on what that reason is.”

However, despite the bold statement, it is unclear how serious Beck was.

“If you’re doing anything in this company because of global warming, you’re fired…Global warming is a pile of crap…a load of socialist, communist crap,” he said, which was first reported by environmental website Grist.

He also said that his broadcaster, Mercury Radio Arts, banned recyclable cardboard boxes and spoons. They will “never be purchased in this company again,” he said. “If we have to recycle light bulbs--fine,” he said.

“If you want to do it because you love trees, I get it ... but if anyone does anything because of global warming, they’re fired,” he added.

Forbes pointed out that more than 80 percent of American office buildings have linear fluorescent bulbs, according to the Department of Energy.

And Pew Research in March found that around 70 percent of Americans believe that climate change is real.

It said, “A survey in March found that 69% of Americans agree there is solid evidence the earth is warming, only 33% described it as a ‘very’ serious problem, while another 32% said it was ‘somewhat serious.’”
