President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, on Oct. 6 said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) intentionally kept its borders open to maximize damage to the rest of the world from the CCP virus (novel coronavirus).

The former New York City mayor referred to the coronavirus as the “CCP virus” on Twitter on Oct. 6. In an interview with The Epoch Times, he explained that he made a deliberate choice in using the name because he holds the communist regime responsible for the pandemic, calling the regime’s malfeasance “an act of war.”

“China knew about it for a month to a month and a half before they told us,” Giuliani said. “They closed down China, and for months after they allowed thousands and hundreds of thousands of Chinese to travel all over Europe, and all over the United States.”

“When they closed down China, they knew how dangerous this was. And they wanted to make sure that the rest of the world was damaged as much as China was. That’s a totally despicable thing to do. You could consider it an act of war if you want.”

Giuliani made a distinction between China proper and the Chinese communist regime, noting that the Chinese people have been as victimized by the CCP as the rest of the world.

“I thought it'd be much better to call it the CCP virus, because this is not the Chinese people,” Giuliani said. “The vast majority of the Chinese people have no idea. They were even the victims of this. They were as victimized as we were.”

Giuliani made the remarks the day after Trump’s return to the White House following a four-day stay at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The president tested positive for the CCP virus on Oct. 1. Over the weekend, when the president was still at the hospital, Giuliani blamed the CCP for the president’s infection.

Giuliani said that “it’s a shame” that names such as China virus and Wuhan virus didn’t stick in the United States, blaming the issue on the CCP’s influence.

“I think it’s because of the Chinese Communist Party’s hold on a lot of America that it doesn’t stick, and commercial relationships with China, which a lot of very influential people consider to be more important than America,” Giuliani said.

As early as April, Trump has suggested that the CCP will pay a substantial price for the pandemic. Giuliani said Trump has been delivering on the threat.

“There’s no reason to telegraph to the Chinese what we are thinking about or what we’re going to do,” Giuliani said. “He’s already doing it. And I would say there’s more to come.”
