Horrifying footage of a wild boar eating straight out of a dumpster close to a school has shocked many internet users after it was posted to social media.

The video shows a giant adult boar standing on its trotters peering into a large grey dumpster as it tries to scavenge for food in Hong Kong on Feb. 6. A group of smaller boars surrounds him.

It is unclear where the wild boars have come from.

According to the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, wild boars are common and widespread in Hong Kong. Most wild boars are wary of human contact. If provoked or threatened, however, they may become aggressive and possibly attack humans.

“Some wild pigs intrude into villages and urban areas in search of food, causing disturbance and damage of crops and personal properties,” the department website reads.

The video has been viewed over 301,000 times and shared over 4,600 times.

Many social media users have expressed their concern about the pigs.

“They are so hungry. Such a pity,” one commenter said.

“Actually they are quite pitiful. If the mountains had food, they wouldn’t take the risk to come down the mountain and find food for its piglets. I hope humans will be more compassionate. After they are full, they will return to the mountains,” another commenter wrote.
