Germany’s Parliament building in Berlin, the Reichstag, will be partly closed off to visitors due to an expected terrorist attack, the government announced on Monday.

The glass dome of the Reichstag attracts between 10,000 and 20,000 visitors daily, will only be open to visitors on prearranged group visits.

The building is surrounded by barricades and 60 additional police officers. Last Wednesday, Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière’s held a press conference after receiving telephone calls made by a possible whistle-blower, the Spiegel reported. He identified the Reichstag as being one of the targets for a raid.

Germany is on an increased terror alert with armed security forces patrolling public places like train stations and airports. Police acted on reports of several abandoned packages all turning out to be false alarms, the Deutsche Welle reports.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned Saturday against panic, but said terrorism poses a real threat to the country, according to Spiegel.
