A teen in Macon, Georgia, is dead and his brother in critical condition after a vehicle the brother was driving rolled over as they were driving to a funeral.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies answered a call of a traffic accident on Hawkinsville Road near Feagin Road just after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8.

They found a 2006 Nissan Titan with brothers Jaquez Jones, 21, and Joshua Jones, 19, both of Macon, overturned in the roadway.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s office said in a press release that the Jones’s car overturned after it hit a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by 20-year-old Chase Walton of Macon. When they collided, Jaquez Jones lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, the sheriff’s office said.

Joshua Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bibb County coroner, and Jaquez Jones was transported to the Navicent Health center in critical condition. Chase Walton was unharmed.

The brothers were driving right behind their parents, and their father reportedly saw the crash.

“[Jequez] was following his father, who actually looked into the rear view mirror and kind of witnessed the accident,” Bibb County Coroner Lonnie Miley told The Telegraph. “It’s just a very, very unfortunate incident.”
It took firefighters several hours to cut Joshua’s body from the truck, and traffic was blocked southbound for more than two hours, the Telegraph reported.
