Georgia Storm Forecast: Weather Projected to Clear Starting Thursday Night

Georgia has been hit hard by an ice storm, with about 117,000 households losing power in the latest numbers.

However, the weather forecast for Atlanta and much of the state calls for Thursday to be mostly sunny with little new snow after 8 a.m., and Thursday night to be clear.

Friday is also projected to be warm, with a high near 52 Fahrenheit, and a 20 percent change of showers; while the weekend is supposed to be mostly sunny with highs up to 57 degrees.

The Wednesday afternoon forecast for Atlanta calls for freezing rain and sleet with a 100 percent chance of precipitation, while tonight the rain and sleet could turn into snow. It will turn into snow after 3 a.m. on Thursday morning, with new snow and sleet accumulation of one to three inches possible.

Similar forecasts from the National Weather Service are projected for Augusta and Columbus, although with less snow and sleet accumulation.

Savannah is supposed to get little precipitation after tonight, and has higher forecasted temperatures than Atlanta and the other major cities.
