WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Cherokee County sheriff’s officials say a man has been arrested in the death of a 24-day-old girl.
Sheriff’s spokesman Jay Baker said in an emailed statement Sunday that 26-year-old Nicholas Campbell is charged with four counts each of child cruelty, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in the death of Ciara Campbell.
Baker says Campbell isn’t the girl’s biological father and is not married to her mother.
Baker says deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive child Thursday night and arrested Campbell after interviews with him, the girl’s mother and her grandmother.
Baker says the injured baby died Sunday after being removed from life support at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Campbell was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and is being held without bond in thecounty jail.
