The wife of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, was charged with perjury on Tuesday.

George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie Zimmerman, “testified untruthfully at the bond hearing,” wrote Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

“Had the court been made aware of the true financial circumstances at the bond hearing, the bond decision might have been different,” he wrote, adding that she lied under oath and “does not properly respect the law.”

In an April hearing, Zimmerman posted a $150,000 bond and was released from jail. Lester removed Zimmerman’s bond on June 1, saying that he and his wife lied about their finances, forcing Zimmerman to return to jail in Florida’s Seminole County.

Lester added that recorded conversations between Zimmerman and his wife while he was in jail “support its assertions of deception,” according to WKMG Local 6 television.

The prosecution found that the two “spoke in code to make it sound like they were talking about negligible sums of money,” the judge added.
