George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty

July 13, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

George Zimmerman has been found not guilty.

The jury in the case came back with the verdict on Saturday night after more than 10 hours of deliberation.

Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder over the shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was walking back from a convenience store when shot by Zimmerman after the two fought.

The shooting, which happened on a rainy night in February 2012, was in self-defense, says Zimmerman. The jury agreed.

All jury members can remain anonymous if they choose, Judge Debra Nelson told them after the verdict was read out.

There isn’t much known about the jury at this point. It is known that the jury was composed of six women.
