Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner has postponed a decision to label China as a currency manipulator during the world currency report to the U.S. Congress, originally scheduled for April 15.

The decision is to avoid a confrontation prior to the Chinese leader Hu Jintao’s visit to Washington later this month.

“There are a series of very important high-level meetings over the next three months that will be critical to bringing about policies that will help create a stronger, more sustainable, and more balanced global economy,” Geithner said in a prepared statement.
