Gateway recently released two new notebook lines: the UC and MD Series. The 15.6-inch MD Series brings in the style and capabilities of Gateway’s already popular MC Series, while focusing more on digital media. The UC Series is the company’s first notebook with a 13.3-inch widescreen display, making for a pleasantly portable design.

“These two new offerings are the result of Gateway’s focus on the needs of distinct mobile customers,” said Ray Sawall, senior product marketing manager for Acer America in a press release.

“These notebooks are incredibly different in terms of style and form factor, yet they both include best-in-class technology at incredible values. The entertainment and multimedia capabilities of the MD Series and the all-around mobility of the UC Series make them perfect for today’s savvy customers who know what they’re looking for in a new notebook,” Sawall said.

The MD Series

The MD Series is more entertainment driven, including advanced video and audio options. It features High-Definition (HD) 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1366x768 display that allows for high-resolution and crisp, clear, video and image viewing. It also features a HDMI v1.3 media connection that lets you connect both your audio and video through the same connection—allowing for clearer image and sound.

Gamers will also be pleased to hear that it has the potential for great graphics, with optional dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon  HD 2650 graphics with DirectX 10 support and 512 MB Confirmed Dedicated Memory, making for beautiful gaming graphics and 3D visual effects. Those who are often up late will also appreciate the MD Series’ illuminated Multimedia Touch Controls with an adjustable ambient light sensor.

This series is also budget-friendly, with a base price of $649.99 and various additional options for increased performance.

The UC Series

Gateway’s UC Series also has its perks. The notebook weighs in at just 5.3 lbs. yet still offers high performance and enough features to please most users out there.

You are given a choice of Intel Centrino 2 or Intel Centrino Processor Technology. There is also a choice of an Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Pentium processor—allowing for fast speeds, with enough options to ensure that the performance matches your standards.

Despite its small size, the UC Series still offers a lot of memory—up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and a substantial hard drive of up to 320GB.

The series also includes touch-sensitive media keys that allow quick access to content, and a DVD player/burner with LabelFlash technology that lets you save your content onto a DVD and create your own labels. It also uses a round touchpad and a pleasant Ultrabright TFT LCD display with 1280x800 resolution and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, for quality pictures.

The UC Series is a bit more expensive than the MD Series, with prices starting at $749.99.
