SHANGHAI—A gasoline station in Pudong new district, Shanghai exploded on November 24, killing four and injuring many. Several journalists were prevented from interviewing the wounded by the police.
The explosion happened in the morning and damaged the windows of nearby residential buildings and shops. After the accident, the police sealed the scene swiftly.
A noodle restaurant on the opposite side of the road had all its windows shattered by flying debris from the explosion. The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Jing, were injured and the equipment in the restaurant was also damaged.
According to Mrs. Jing, a lot of debris fell down from the sky. She saw many people running out of the building. She and her husband also ran, but both of them were still hit by flying debris and had six to seven stitches on their heads.
Mrs.Jing said government officials had visited them in the hospital. After the treatment, the hospital told them to go home first. At present no one has brought up the issue of compensation.
In the evening of November 24, local media went to interview Mr. and Mrs. Jing but were dispelled by the police.
Another local male said that he lived within a 500-meter radius of the gas shop. He said he heard a large explosion at about 7:00 a.m. when he was doing grocery shopping and the explosion lasted about several seconds.
