A 34-year-old man pleaded guilty on July 18 and was immediately sentenced to three years in prison for choking an underage prostitute until she passed out and hitting her with a brick in Stanton.

Margarito De La Cruz Guigui of Garden Grove pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery—all misdemeanors—as well as a felony count of robbery.

Mr. Guigui also admitted a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon.

As part of the plea deal, the assault charges were reduced from felonies to misdemeanors, and sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim were dismissed.

Mr. Guigui was also initially charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, but that count was dropped as well.

Mr. Guigui was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old prostitute Nov. 11, 2019, choking her until she fainted, and striking her with a brick, investigators said in court papers. He was also accused of robbing another victim on Oct. 24, 2020.

Investigators used DNA evidence left at the scene of the assault to link Guigui to the crimes, according to court records.
