The FunTown Amusement Pier burned down in the 6-alarm blaze that tore through Seaside Park, New Jersey, on Thursday.

The area lies on the Jersey Shore that was hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy last year.

The fire reportedly started in a frozen custard shop, said officials.

ABC New York posted a photo of the FunTown Pier completely engulfed in flames.

The area was evacuated and some people are being treated for smoke inhalation, CBS reported. There were also reports of explosions along the pier due to the fire.

“You can feel it from a block away it’s so hot,” said Seaside Park Police Chief Francis Larkin.

“Pictures and video of the fire are startling and sad given what Seaside Park and neighboring Seaside Heights have endured with Superstorm Sandy. Governor Christie is deeply concerned and will get a firsthand look shortly at the scene,” Michael Drewniak, a press secretary for the New Jersey Governor’s office, told CNN.

“Only thing we’ve heard it appears that there is a serious fire at Funtown Pier -- privately owned on the southern end of town, Not on public property, ” Seaside Heights Borough Administrator John Camera told CNN.
