A funnel cloud was spotted over New York Harbor near the Brooklyn waterfront on Tuesday as a thunderstorm passed over the region.

“Baby Brooklyn tornado,” tweeted one observer.

The National Weather Service later wrote that “we reviewed pictures and video from New York Harbor, and determined there was a funnel cloud. From the videos we saw, there was no apparent sign of the circulation touching the water.”

The system hit New York City and outlying areas with heavy rain and winds.

A number of New Yorkers tweeted videos of the funnel cloud.
