President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a joint statement on Tuesday. The historic document is the first bilateral agreement between an American president and a North Korean leader.

Trump has stated that he would ultimately seek to strike a deal with North Korea that would be approved by Congress. An agreement between the United States and a foreign nation becomes a treaty once a supermajority in the Senate votes to confirm it.
