[xtypo_dropcap]T[/xtypo_dropcap]he other night, I was invited to attend a live stage show at CAPS Theatre in Sherman Oaks, Calif. I came early to interview several performers. Each of them had their own story, but they also had some very common roots. They all started singing, dancing, and even composing at young ages, from as early as two-years-old.

Ten performances marked the evening with performers ranging from their 20s to a middle-aged rock band. Performing is in their souls.

Three young performers were interviewed, and although they are quite knowledgeable about their art and brimming with skill, they are humble and soft-spoken. While speaking with them, they were as quiet as a church mouse. This, however, was a stark contrast to their performances on stage.

Jeremy Winans has a very good stage presence in his complex performance, while Jabbarri Jones of Inglewood has a very smooth and rich voice that moves your hectic day into the background. Both young men write their own songs, compose, and also want to further develop their acting and performance skills.

Trebella, from Orange County, was a great surprise also. She said, “I performed as a volunteer on a performance tour for our troops in Europe and the Middle East over a year ago. I want to do this again in the near future.” She is an aficionado of all music, from “opera to rock to rap.” Trebella also composes, writes, and performs her own works with a wide range of genre. She bellowed and wailed several nightclub classics including “Beautiful” in a hilarious modern adaptation, which brought down the house.

All the performances were excellent.

Shy Gold Productions is the producer of the show. Ms. Gold said, “We have been producers for several years. The performers are what make these shows possible. Without them we could never produce such quality shows.”

If you want to see a great presentation of fresh talent, take the time and drive to CAPS at 13752 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks on Dec. 18 (all genres) and Dec. 19 (gospel) for the upcoming performances.

Reserve your seat early—all seats were sold out when I was there.
