ST. LOUIS—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company was met with a sold out matinee at the St. Louis Peabody Opera House on Sunday, Feb. 19. Two language teachers from a private school, Carine Terras and Catalina Aldrich, were among the audience enjoying the unique display of classical Chinese dance and music.

“It is wonderful,” said Ms. Terras, a French teacher, about the performance. “I am a very visual person. I love it, I love it, love it, love it.”

“It’s beautiful, very different,” said Ms. Aldrich, a Spanish teacher and director of the language department.

Shen Yun’s mission is to bring to life 5,000 years of divinely inspired ancient Chinese culture through the arts of classical Chinese and ethnic dance, orchestral music, award winning soloists, and high technology stage backdrops.

Ms. Aldrich mentioned that having the digital backdrop, which expands and transforms the stage and brings everything to life is “a very ingenious way to do it.”

“We are enjoying all of it, the music, dance, the colors and everything-beautiful!” she added.

Among the emotions that the performance invoked in Ms. Aldrich were awe and joy. One example is a dance showing monks being very mischievous in Joyful Little Monks.

“It is interesting how you can invoke so many different emotions in each different scene,” Ms. Aldrich said. “Each time that something new starts, you are kind of waiting and wondering, ‘How am I going to feel or how am I going to react?’”
