French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy sparked a media buzz when she wore an emerald-green, floor-length dress by Roland Mouret to a state dinner with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. While the dress was elegant and pretty, the first lady’s choice to go bra-less did not escape media and public attention.

Perhaps Madame Sarkozy’s carefree decision to wear the designer dress directly against bare skin hails back to her former days as a high-fashion model. Runway models showing Mouret’s designs at the Paris fashion week, concurring around the days of the Sarkozy-Medvedev state dinner, displayed the “architecture” of his dresses with little if anything underneath the garments. Mouret uses straight lines to effortlessly outline the female form, giving the wearer a sleek shape with an accent on the curves in just the right places.

Other celebrities who recently chose Roland Mouret include Sandra Bullock, who wore a sober yet very feminine gray suit by the designer to the Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon. Victoria Beckham is also known to have been a fan, choosing Roland Mouret day dresses for a number of public appearances over the past few years.
