Fox News Contributer Tomi Lahren Faces Backlash After Colin Kaepernick Thanksgiving Tweet

Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren faced a backlash when she tweeted a photo of Colin Kaepernick on a knee while U.S. troops were being deployed was photoshopped as the background.

The Thanksgiving tweet was met with criticism, support, and controversy, just like the wider NFL debate. The photo doesn’t indicate who put together the image, but Lahren captions it “Food for thought.”

On the bottom of the photo is a banner that reads “Citizen of the Year,” alluding to Colin Kaepernick receiving the honor from GQ magazine. The military action is a photo of troops leaving a ship and pushing toward the shores of Normandy during World War II, according to Breitbart. She shows Kaepernick staying inside the ship on his knee while they head out to war.

Lahren had earlier expressed disappointment with Kaepernick winning the Citizen of the Year award. On Fox News she said, “Law enforcement, military, everyday heroes like that” should be chosen before someone who “disrespected the flag, the national anthem, and the military.”

Ex-ESPN reporter Britt McHenry tweeted earlier that Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt would’ve been a better football choice for Citizen of the Year:

“JJ Watt raised $37 million for Hurricane Harvey victims. 37 MILLION! But Kaepernick refused to stand for our national anthem (a year ago) and is Citizen of the Year. Right…”

McHenry further clarified her position on Fox Business by mentioning the deeds of other football players who she feels would have been more appropriate choices for the honor.

“There should have been many more examples. J.J. Watt is one. Kenny Stills of the Dolphins met with police officers in his community, if that’s the issue they’re protesting, police brutality. There’s been other examples of efforts from NFL players to really do something other than taking a knee.”
