A bodega, an Islamic Center, a house where Hindu services are held, and a private home were all attacked by firebombs, or Molotov cocktails, on Sunday night in Queens.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo asked Superintendent of State Police Joe D'Amico and Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Liz Glazer to help with the case, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg said through Twitter that New York Police Department’s Hate Crimes Unit and 103rd Precinct’s detective squad “are aggressively investigating” the attacks. There were no reported injuries.

“No matter the motivation behind the Queens attacks, these actions stand in stark contrast to the NYC of today that we’ve built together,” tweeted Bloomberg. These incidents happened less than a week after Bloomberg held press conferences touting ways the city has advanced, including near record low public safety records.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer also condemned the attacks. “These reprehensible acts, all using Molotov cocktails, have no place in New York or in any other civilized community,” he said in a press release. “And I urge the police to spare no resources in bringing those responsible to justice.”

He added that anyone who knows anything about the attacks should notify the police immediately.
