At least 12 soldiers were injured in Colorado’s Fort Carson during a lightning strike, according to preliminary reports on Wednesday.

One person was left in critical condition, reported KKTV-11 News.

The others were sent to the hospital.

The lightning struck down at around 2:45 p.m. local time.

The incident comes as a thunderstorm capable of producing high winds and hail is moving across the central portion of the state.

9 News reported that the soldiers were doing training when a fast-moving weather cell moved over them.

Fort Carson is located south of Colorado Springs.
