WATERBURY, Conn.—The essence of 5,000 years of Chinese culture was displayed on the state of the Palace Theater in Waterbury, as Shen Yun Performing Arts played its second show on Thursday.

John and Lisa Hall, both former dancers, attended Shen Yun on Thursday. Mr. Hall at one time performed competitive ballroom dancing and toured the world.

“They’re precise. I mean, they’re perfect,” Mrs. Hall said, referring to the Shen Yun dancers’ skill.

Classical Chinese dance is the main medium of expression used by Shen Yun’s performers. The dance is a complete system and uses a unique set of movements and rhythms to express the ancient cultural aesthetics of China, the New York-based company’s website says.

The dancers showed “precision” while it was also “colorful,” and “it’s everything you could want in a show,” Mrs. Hall said.
