Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for an estimated 1.9 million vehicles in North America to replace defective airbags made by Japanese supplier Takata Corp, the company said on June 1. 

The faulty airbags are located on the front passenger side of the car. Driver side airbag inflators are not included in the recall, Ford said. 

The motor company will replace the defective air bags for free.

The recall includes includes 1,896,443 vehicles in the United States and territories, 1,304 in Canada, and one in Mexico.

The recall is part of a nationwide extension of an ongoing Takata air bag recall, which was already the biggest on record for the United States. Certain Takata air  bags can inflate with too much force and spurt shrapnel into the cars. The defect has caused 11 deaths across the globe. Ford says it’s not aware of any injuries in these vehicles.

2006-2011 Ford Fusion

2005-2011 Ford Mustang

2007-2011 Ford Ranger

2007-2010 Lincoln MKX

2006-2011 Lincoln MKZ

Zephyr and Mercury Milan

Customers who want to check if their vehicle is included in the recall can go to www.ford.com and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
