San Jose State University officials will be giving an award to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties for its support of the university’s students.

The officials made the announcement on Sept. 12.

During the past two years, the food bank has supplied $430,000 in groceries to San Jose State University students to eliminate food insecurity.

The food bank will receive the 2018 Community Partner Award at the university’s annual Inspiration to Innovation gala on Oct. 18, at The Event Center at San Jose State.

The food bank and the university are preparing to open the school’s first permanent food pantry where food will be free for eligible students.
