Flying Lizard to Race in GTC for 2013 ALMS Season

Flying Lizard Motorsports, the primary Porsche campaigner in the American Le Mans Series GTE class for the past eight years, is stepping down to GTC for the 2013 series, according to the team’s website.

With Porsche not making its latest 991 model available to customer teams in 2013 and no longer supporting the older 997 model, Flying Lizard loses Porsche factory drivers, Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister, who brought the team multiple class and drivers’ championships since 2008.

Instead of running a pair of old and unsupported GTE cars, team owner/driver Seth Neiman will campaign a slower GTC Porsche with GTC ace Spencer Pumpelly, and offer the team’s expertise to interested customers.

Team manager Eric Ingraham explained, “We’re excited to race in GTC in 2013. Moving to GTC also gives us the opportunity to share our Porsche experience with customers who want to race professionally in either the ALMS GTC or IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge series.”
