Floyd Mayweather Jr. is slated to fight Marcos Maidana for a second time in September 13, but Amir Khan says he’s still hopeful in fighting Mayweather next year.

Khan, in an interview on Thursday with Sky Sports, said he wants to fight in December.

“I’m looking at fighting on December 6. There’s no opponent yet but I’ve got a meeting with my manager Al Haymon in the next couple of weeks,” he said. “I'll be flying back to America to begin my training camp at the end of August with my trainer Virgil Hunter in San Francisco.”

He added: “I‘d like to fight whoever. There are a few big names out there. You’ve got Devon Alexander and Robert Guerrero out there but who knows. I’ll fight anyone you put in front of me.”

“At the moment, I’m waiting for names from Golden Boy Promotions and from Al Haymon and I'll just take it from there.”

Khan said a fight with Mayweather is “within touching distance.”

“I had that good performance against Luis Collazo which put me in that position but obviously because I don’t want a long wait until May, I want to get a fight in in December and look good in that fight,” he added.

Mayweather and Maidana will fight Sept. 13 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Marcos Maidana is a tough customer and he gave me a fight that had me work for the victory,” Mayweather stated in a news release a few weeks ago. “His style is difficult at best, but with experience comes a way and will to win. I’m not one to give second chances in the ring, but I want to give the fans what they want to see. I will be as prepared as I always am when I step in the ring on Sept. 13. I only see the outcome one way and that’s another successful night for me and my team.”
