Rescuers are searching for a passenger who fell into the ocean from a small aircraft near Miami. The pilot said the person fell out of the plane at around 1,800 feet near the Kendall-Tamiami Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration quoted a passenger as saying that the passenger fell into the ocean, reported The Associated Press.
WSVN-TV reported that the person either fell or jumped out of the plane, but it was unclear.
FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen told AP that the call came at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday from a pilot of a small Piper PA 46 aircraft.
Air and water units were in the area searching waters eight miles southeast of the Tamiami Executive Airport.
The plane landed safely.
Coast Guard and fire rescue officials told AP that it wasn’t confirmed if the pilot’s emergency call was legitimate. Detectives were sent to the Miami airport to further investigate.
