A Florida woman was arrested after leaving her baby son in a cold car while she allegedly stole from her local supermarket on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Sarah Jean Wilmoth, 30, was arrested after a couple noticed a baby boy alone in a car at a Publix parking lot. When the couple returned 45 minutes later, they noticed the infant was still in the car and crying hysterically. They quickly notified police who rescued the child from Wilmoth’s 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, reported the Miami Herald, citing an arrest report.

Authorities tracked down Wilmoth in the supermarket and she was subsequently placed under arrest for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for more than 15 minutes.

According to the arrest report, Wilmoth was surprised to see paramedics tending to her son and reportedly screamed, “Oh, my God! That’s my son!”

She claimed that her cousin who was in the car with the child had disappeared from the car and left her son unattended. But after further police questioning, Wilmoth admitted that it was a lie, reported the newspaper.

Wilmoth said she left her son in the car because he was sleeping.

During a search, police found a “small clear, plastic baggy containing a clear rocky substance and a crack pipe with residual material within ...”

The 30-year-old admitted that it was methamphetamine laced with cocaine, reported the Miami Herald.
