Christian Gomez, a 23-year-old Florida man, beheaded his mother after she asked him to put some boxes away, according to police.
Gomez was upset by the “nagging,” and used an axe to hit his mother, 48-year-old Maria Suarez-Cassagne, over the head. He then cut off her head in the garage and dragged her body to the garbage outside the home.
Gomez admitted to police that he put his mother’s head in a garbage can outside the house. He tried to put her body in the garbage, but it was too heavy.
Cassagne’s older son, Mario Gomez, found her body.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told reporters that Gomez has been charged with murder and is being held without bond in the Pinellas County Jail.
He said that Gomez had been planning the murder for two days, and that he has a history of mental illness, reported Andrew Doud of WFTS.
The murder took place at a home on Sheffield Court in Oldsmar.
Deputies were called at about 7:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday, to investigate reports of a deceased woman outside the home, reported ABC.
Gomez’s mother was declared dead by police when they arrived at the home, from blunt force trauma.
Gomez had just left the home but was found riding a bicycle several blocks away, reported WFLA.
He has prior arrests for loitering and prowling, resisting officer without violence, and disorderly conduct.
