A video of a group of fisherman dragging a shark behind their boat is drawing disgust and ire from animal rights activists and beyond.
The group sent the video to a local Florida celebrity fisherman, Captain Mark “Mark The Shark” Quartiano, as if to show off and seek praise. He believes one of the men on the boat sent it to him. They also sent a graphic photo of the shark ripped to shreds that is too disturbing to share.
“I’ve killed plenty of sharks in my life. Never tortured them, never disrespected them like that. That is inhumane, there is no reason to do anything like that to any creature on the Earth. They should be prosecuted. Totally,” said Captain Mark Quartiano, who received the video via Instagram. He forwarded the video to the Florida Wildlife Commission, which is investigating.
Florida wildlife officials say they are investigating the incident and are trying to identify the people involved, according to WESH 2.
Quartiano posted on his Instagram account links to two accounts he says sent him the images. One is private and not accessible, and the other account is non-existent, possibly removed.
While no charges have been laid, social media is jumping all over the case, trying to determine the identities of the fishermen and skewering them in the comments sections.
