A Florida father was shot and killed after an online date conspired to have him robbed, according to local authorities.

Adam Hilarie and 18-year-old Hailey Rose Bustos went on a date on the evening of Aug. 18 after the pair met on the dating website Plenty of Fish.

After the date, the two went back to Hilarie’s apartment before he dropped her home, with promises to see each other again. However, according to police, the intention of Bustos, along with three men, was to rob Hilarie’s house.

“Once she got home, they talked together; they worked out the details and then went back and committed the murder,” Auburndale Police Deputy Chief Andy Ray said. “I think the plan was that he get robbed and that they take his stuff.”

The following night Bustos sat in the car while Andre Warner, Gary Gray, and Joshua Ellington stole electronics from Hilarie’s apartment.

A struggle ensued in the kitchen, where Warner allegedly fired a fatal shot at Hillarie’s head. Hilarie is survived by his 5-year-old daughter, Lajaya.

“I miss my daddy because he’s with Jesus,” Lajaya told ABC Action News.

Detectives believe Bustos has previously lured men under false pretenses.

“Her comfort with the way this went, didn’t seem like it was her first time. If she hasn’t done it before, then she has talked to people who have done it,” Deputy Chief Ray said.

All suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with a firearm, and first-degree murder. Ellington and Bustos are also facing charges for probation violation.

Deputy Ray warned of online dating and the dangers that can result from bringing home strangers.

“You just have to remember, you have no idea who you are talking to,” he said. “They may present themselves as one thing and be someone totally different.”

Loved ones have launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses.
