Queensland, Australia, whose several regions haven’t seen floods since 2002, declared a state of emergency due to heavy rains, reaching 5.7 inches.

Hundreds of people are being evacuated from Charleville while hospital patients are being transferred to Brisbane. Several citizens of Charleville have been rescued from the rising waters by the State Emergency Service.

Despite the apparent catastrophic situation, forecasters say the rains will decrease soon, much to the chagrin of farmers for whom heavy rains mean bountiful crops in the usually drought-ridden region of Australia.
