An interesting flight pattern saw passengers take off in 2018 but were transported back into 2017 by the time they landed.

Hawaiian Airlines flight 446 took off from New Zealand at 12:05 a.m. on Jan. 1.

But the flight took people back in time, and by the time they arrived at Honolulu, Hawaii, they were back in 2017 with the flight time pegged at 10:15 a.m. HST on Dec. 31.

ABC reporter Sam Sweeney and Flightrader appeared to first realize what was happening, posting pictures of the flight path on Twitter. Sweeney noted that the flight was originally supposed to take off at 11:55 p.m. NZDT on Dec. 31 but because of a slight delay takeoff was pushed into the new year.

Auckland is 23 hours ahead of Honolulu.

Twitter users enjoyed the presented scenario and made various comments.

Others noted that the occurrence isn’t that unusual.
