A flash flood warning was issued for parts of New York, including New York City, on Monday as a thunderstorm passes through parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

For New York City, the weather agency issued a flash flood warning for Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester County, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Westchester County.

In New Jersey, a flash flood warning was issued for Hudson County, Union County, Bergen County, and Essex County, the Weather Service said.

The warning is in effect until 1:00 p.m., it said.

According to an advisory, “excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.”

The Weather Service earlier issued a tornado warning for parts of New Jersey.
