After “Fixer Upper” stars Chip and Joanna Gaines posted a picture of their ultrasound, some noticed that there might be something wrong.

According to TMZ, fans of the show “speculated something was wrong with the images, because of excess fluid around the fetus. They’ve been commenting that the condition appears to mimic hydrops fetalis, a sometimes fatal condition.”
Hydrops fetalis, according to Medscape, is “a serious fetal condition defined as abnormal accumulation of fluid in two or more fetal compartments, including ascites, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, and skin edema.” It adds: “Hydrops fetalis has been a well-recognized fetal and neonatal condition throughout history.”

Radiologist Nicole Saphier, who practices at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, told TMZ that there appears to be a skin edema, but she added that the ultrasound isn’t conclusive.

The pair announced that they are having their fifth child this week. They have sons Duke, 9, and Drake, 12, as well as daughters Emmie Kay, 7, and Ella Rose, 11.

“Chip thinks we’re done,” Joanna, 39, told People magazine in June. She said, “I would love to have another baby — or twins! The kids are always asking me, ‘Mom, can you have another baby?’ ”

“Emmie has never really wanted one, and now she’s like, ‘Okay. I want a brother or sister,’” said Joanna. “So I’m thinking that might be a sign.”

“Chip swears he can already tell it’s a boy,” she wrote in the Wednesday ultrasound video.
