Many believed an unofficial Instagram account that posted what it claimed to be the first selfie for Pope Francis.
A number of news outlets and social media users believed that the picture indeed showed the pope’s first selfie.
But the picture, showing an overjoyed pope, actually comes from a screen grab of a video chat he did in September 2014, reported CNN.
It was posted by the “vatican__” account.
CNN, the New York Daily News, and Yahoo were among the outlets to fall for the hoax.
The pope has actually posed for plenty of selfies before but it seems that the official Vatican Instagram account has never posted them.

He often poses for selfies but typically doesn’t take the pictures.
He apparently first posed for a selfie in August 30, 2013.
