A 22-year-old Tibetan girl, Yudron, was crowned the “Tibet Tourism Image Ambassador” in the first Ethnic Tibetan Beauty Contest on Sept 19th.

The beauty contest, sponsored by the region’s Tourism Bureau and hosted by the Tibet Travel magazine, aims to enhance the image of Tibet and promote the local tourism, according to a Tibet Business Daily’s report on the 21st.

Seven out of the 26 finalists were chosen as “Image Ambassadors” for the region’s seven prefectures. They will attend different activities to promote Tibet’s tourism.

The show included a Tibetan dress show, folk songs, dance performances, and an introduction to tourist spots.

The competition attracted more than 1,000 contestants from Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Gansu Province, Yunnan Province and Sichuan Province.

The Tibetan government in exile has also held an annual Miss Tibet beauty contest in India since 2002. Several Miss Tibets had to withdraw from the international pageants after they were asked to wear a sash titled “Miss Tibet—China,” due to pressure from the Chinese regime.
