Explosions in a fireworks factory in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province
“Police blocked the scene so we couldn’t get in,” Mr. Zhang, a local resident, told The Epoch Times by telephon. “The factory has 20 to 30 workers working there. Till now, I can still hear the explosions.”
Mr. Fu, another local resident reached by telephone, said it was serious. “Now it is like martial law has been imposed. No one can get close. The mushroom cloud was like from an atomic bomb. You can smell it. Six miles from the spot I can still feel the shaking and see the thick cloud. The glass has cracked in the houses one to two miles away.”
“It started at around 10 am. There were workers working inside the factory,” Fu added.
A Harbin news website reported that a police building near the factory was damaged, partly collapsing. The police managed to get out of the building.
Local media reported that some fireworks remained unexploded in the factory. The nearby district government issued a vacation day for employees, and other local residents were evacuated.
The cause of the conflagration was not given.
