The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has joined a European probe into alleged bribes made by Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP).
U.S., Russian, and German authorities are investigating whether executives of the Palo Alto, Calif.-based computer maker paid 8 million euros ($11 million) to win a contract to sell computer equipment to a Russian agency.
HP’s CEO at the time was Carly Fiorina, a 2010 Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from California.
“When she served as the CEO of HP if she had been aware of any illegal or inappropriate behavior by any employee she would have taken action immediately to terminate the parties involved,” Fiorina’s spokeswoman said in a statement.
