PHILADELPHIA—After seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Merriam Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia on Saturday, a prominent financial planner said watching Shen Yun “makes you feel good, it makes you feel open. Watching it makes you feel alive.”

Using the words “perfect” and “very lively,” Eric Huck, co-founder of Harrisburg-based BAR Financial LLC, said he really enjoyed the performance.

The New York-based Shen Yun is presenting five performances in Philadelphia, part of a global tour to over 20 countries and 100 cities.

Brilliant costumes, a state-of-the-art digital backdrop, divine classical Chinese dance, and an orchestra combining Chinese and Western instruments are all part of Shen Yun performances.

Mr. Huck has been a chief financial planner with BAR Financial for 10 years. Previous to that, he also co-founded another company, T.H.E. Financial Group, a Pennsylvania-based broker/dealer.

Mr. Huck said that the piece When Shaolin Monks Protected the Emperor was impressive to watch. The mini-drama dance draws upon a story from Chinese traditional culture about monks to whom the emperor granted permission to eat meat.

Eating meat is typically taboo for monks, but these monks were tempted into eating a rabbit, and as the story unfolds, they are able to protect the emperor from harm’s way using the strength gained from eating the meat, and long sticks which they use to fight off those who would harm the emperor.

Mr. Huck said he really enjoyed the choreography and the use of the sticks as weapons.

Shen Yun’s classical dance, ethnic dance, and mini-dramas are bringing to life onstage ancient values such as wisdom and loyalty, according to the Shen Yun website.
