Federal law enforcement officials on Wednesday arrested an Idaho Falls man who is a suspect in last week’s shooting at the White House.
Oscar Ramiro Ortega, 21, was wanted by U.S. Park Police and was arrested in Pennsylvania by state police, according to NBC Washington. Authorities believe he fired the shots from an AK-47 assault rifle and allegedly abandoned the weapon and his car nearby.
“We have not received any reports of any damage to any buildings or anything as a result of that firearm’s discharge,” Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser told The Washington Post.
Two bullets hit the White House, including one that cracked a window on the residential level. President Barack Obama was traveling when the shots were fired.
“A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass. One additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House,” a Secret Service statement obtained by CNN reads.
It added that the damage done to the White House “has not been conclusively connected to Friday’s incident, and an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing.”
