The FBI released its annual report on hate crimes committed throughout the United States in 2010, showing little change from the previous year.

Of the 6,628 “single bias incidents,” the FBI said 47.3 percent were racially motivated, 20 percent were motivated by religion, 19.3 percent were motivated by sexual orientation, and 12.8 percent were motivated by ethnicity or national origin. Disability bias accounted for less than 1 percent of all of these types of incidents.

The FBI said 4,824 hate crimes were against persons, with intimidation accounting for 46.2 percent of this figure, simple assaults accounting for 34.8 percent, and aggravated assaults accounting for 18.4 percent.

The statistics also showed there were 2,861 hate crimes centered around the destruction of property, with the majority, or 81.1 percent, being vandalism.

There were 6,008 offenders, with whites accounting for 58.6 percent of crimes committed, and blacks accounting for 18.4 percent of the offenders. A smaller minority, 12 percent, of the offenders were of unknown race. Others were of mixed heritage, and the smallest minority of perpetrators, about 1 percent each, were Asians or Native Americans.
