A new fan theory suggests Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is also the lead singer of the metal band Stryper.

“I’m not saying Ted Cruz might be the lead singer of Stryper. I’m saying he’s DEFINITELY the lead singer of Stryper,” wrote author Michael Boulerice on Facebook, posting a picture of the two men and noting their similarities.

The 45-year-old Cruz is a politician from Texas, while 52-year-old Michael Sweet of California is the lead singer of Christian metal band Stryper.

Sweet was also the singer and a guitarist for Boston for several years.

While the fan theory has gone viral, the Daily Dot compared a list of Stryper tour dates and Cruz public appearances and said “the two men have consistently been in different places at different times.”
